The Museum of Toronto is getting its first permanent home at 2 Queen St. E., inside a former Bank of Montreal branch at Yonge and Queen streets. The new space is expected to open in spring 2027, according to Curiocity. The museum says it will be “dedicated to the people, places, and stories that have shaped Toronto.” Since its founding in 2014, the museum has operated without a building, hosting pop-up exhibits, talks and tours across the city instead. Toronto-based studio Superkül is working on the project.

From Pop-Ups to a Permanent Home

The museum began in 2014, when philanthropist Diane Blake brought together heritage and cultural leaders to imagine a museum about Toronto’s past and future. Later that year, Blake and Stephen J. R. Smith incorporated it as a “museum without walls.” It then launched publicly in 2015 and was previously known as Myseum of Toronto before a 2024 rebrand.

A $35-million gift from its founders has helped the museum work toward a permanent space. Details on exhibits, hours and admission have not yet been announced.
