What Is the Ontario Trillium Benefit?
The Ontario Trillium Benefit is a monthly payment that combines three provincial credits:
- Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit
- Northern Ontario Energy Credit
- Ontario Sales Tax Credit
This three-in-one benefit is designed to help with energy costs, property taxes, and sales tax. It’s administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) on behalf of the Government of Ontario.
When Will You Get Paid?
April’s payment date is April 10, 2025. If you don’t see the deposit by April 28, check your payment status through CRA’s My Account. The CRA won’t provide updates before that date.

If you have a spouse or common-law partner, they must also file their return annually. The CRA uses this information to determine your eligibility and payment amount.
Key tax deadlines:
- April 30, 2025 – Standard deadline to file your return
- June 16, 2025 – Deadline for self-employed individuals and their spouses
Are You Eligible for the OTB?
You may qualify if:
- You paid rent or property tax on your Ontario home last year
- You paid living costs in a nursing home
- You paid for energy use on a reserve
- You lived in a post-secondary school residence in Ontario
Eligibility also depends on your family’s net income, age, marital status, and where you live in the province.
