A Cool, Dry Start Before the Storms

The Farmers’ Almanac predicts that fall will begin on a cool and dry note, offering relief after a summer marked by sharp temperature swings. But by October, conditions will grow more unsettled and colder, setting up a stormier second half of the season.

Rain will become a recurring theme, with heavy showers and thunderstorms expected across Ontario and Quebec through much of October. A brief break in the unsettled pattern is forecast for Thanksgiving (October 13), when much of Ontario should see pleasant, partly sunny skies—perfect for one last outdoor gathering before winter’s chill sets in.

Halloween Forecast: Chilly and Damp Possibilities

According to the extended outlook, Halloween night (October 31) will start out chilly with fair skies. However, clouds are expected to increase later in the evening, bringing a risk of showers. Those heading out for trick-or-treating may want to add waterproof layers to costumes.

Early Snow a Possibility in Northern Ontario

Snow is not out of the question this fall, particularly in higher elevations of northern Ontario. By November, more widespread snowfall could appear across the province as winter draws near.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac agrees on the cooler-than-average outlook for southern Ontario, also predicting wetter-than-normal conditions in some areas. It warns that early September may bring thunderstorms, cooler pockets, and even a chance of early snow before the month ends.

Regional Weather Trends Across Canada

Across the rest of Canada, fall will also be turbulent. The Prairies and Atlantic Canada are forecast to see cooler-than-average temperatures, with wet snow possible as early as October. In contrast, southern Ontario could enjoy some of its most pleasant days in early October and mid-November, offering short-lived breaks between storm systems.

What This Means for Ontario Residents

Overall, the Fall 2025 forecast points to dramatic temperature swings, recurring rainfall, and occasional moments of calm. From mild, sunny stretches to sudden cold snaps, Ontarians should prepare for quick weather changes—and keep both umbrellas and snow shovels ready.
