· · ·

Rogers is changing the game for Canadians in remote and rural areas with the launch of Rogers Satellite, a new satellite-to-mobile text messaging service. Starting July 15, 2025, all Canadians can sign up for the beta trial at no cost, making Rogers the first wireless provider in Canada to offer this next-generation technology nationwide.

Expanding Canada’s Connectivity Like Never Before

The new Rogers Satellite service increases Rogers’ coverage to over 5.4 million square kilometers—2.5 times more than any other carrier in the country. This tech automatically connects phones to low-earth orbit (LEO) satellites in areas without cell towers, using Rogers’ national wireless spectrum. No extra hardware needed—just your smartphone and a clear view of the sky.

Whether you’re off-grid in the Rockies, driving across a remote stretch of highway, or by the Gulf of St. Lawrence, you’ll still be able to send a text message or contact 911 if needed.

Free Trial Until October—Then Affordable Access for All

The beta trial runs through October 2025, and users can experience Rogers Satellite for free during this period. Afterward, the service will be:

  • Free for those on the Rogers Ultimate Plan
  • $15/month for everyone else
  • $10/month for beta testers (discount valid for the first 12 months)

Initially, only text messaging and text-to-911 are available. But voice, app, and full data support are in the pipeline.

A Partnership Powered by SpaceX and Lynk Global

This rollout is part of Rogers’ ongoing collaboration with SpaceX’s Starlink and Lynk Global. It reflects the telecom giant’s long-term vision of universal coverage across Canada, especially in areas where traditional networks fall short.

Public Safety and Rural Communities Stand to Benefit

Emergency responders and rural leaders are already praising the move:

  • BC Search and Rescue called it a “crucial step forward” for public safety in the backcountry.
  • Search and Rescue Alberta noted this could “save lives” by offering direct emergency access without special equipment.
  • Northwestern Ontario’s municipal association (NOMA) emphasized how the service supports economic growth and digital inclusion.

What’s Next for Rogers?

Rogers is continuing its legacy of innovation. After celebrating the 40th anniversary of Canada’s first wireless call, this new satellite service marks a bold leap toward a future where no Canadian is left disconnected—no matter where they live or travel.
