Mark’s stores are about to look a lot different. Canadian Tire Corporation announced on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, that it will spend $200 million to open and refresh more Mark’s locations across Canada, The Canadian Press reported.

The plan is to make the stores bigger, brighter and easier to shop. In addition, the company hopes the new look will bring in more women and younger shoppers.

What Is Changing at Mark’s Stores

The new store model is about 25,000 square feet. It has open, airy spaces and larger sections for women and kids. Also, many of the new stores include small shops inside the store for well-known brands, according to The Canadian Press.

So far, 21 stores use the new model. These are in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec. By the end of 2028, at least 40 of Mark’s expected 387 locations should be new or updated, the company said.

The biggest store with the new look recently opened in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It covers 36,000 square feet. Inside, shoppers can find shops for Columbia, Silver Jeans, Carhartt, Timberland and Levi’s.

What the President of Mark’s Said

PJ Czank, the president of Mark’s, said the company wants to “change how customers see us.” He also explained why the company is going bigger. “What we realized is that our biggest stores are actually the most productive,” he told The Canadian Press.

Czank added, “We’d like to be more inspiring and more relevant.” Meanwhile, he hinted that more change may come. “This concept is a scratching of the surface,” he said.

Mark’s Stores: Key Details

  • Investment: $200 million from Canadian Tire Corporation
  • Goal: At least 40 new or updated stores by the end of 2028
  • Stores so far: 21 stores in five provinces
  • Store size: About 25,000 square feet
  • Largest store: 36,000 square feet in Thunder Bay, Ontario
  • Brands inside: Columbia, Silver Jeans, Carhartt, Timberland and Levi’s

How the Idea Started

Canadian Tire first tested the idea in 2023. At that time, it took over 10 leases from former Bed Bath & Beyond stores in Canada, according to a Canadian Tire news release. Six of those spaces were used to move Mark’s stores, including one in Oakville, Ontario.

Back then, Czank said, “These relocated stores will feature more products and deeper assortments of our best brands.” Since then, bigger stores have led to double-digit growth in sales per square foot, The Canadian Press reported.

What It Means for Toronto Shoppers

If you live downtown, you may not see one of these big stores soon. The new model does not fit well in downtown Toronto or Vancouver, where space is tight, The Canadian Press reported. Instead, the company is focusing on suburban and city areas with more room.

Still, regular stores will also benefit. That is because Mark’s plans to use lessons from the new stores at its other locations too.

What Happens Next

Over the next two years, more Mark’s stores will open or get a makeover. So, shoppers in the Greater Toronto Area may soon see bigger stores with more brands nearby. For now, the company has not shared a full list of which locations will change next.
