Multiple sources reported that the plane landed safely at approximately 4:00 p.m. Airport emergency crews met the aircraft upon arrival. Officials confirmed that no fire occurred and that the aircraft landed normally before response teams evaluated it.
No Injuries Among 176 Passengers
Air Canada confirmed that 176 passengers were on board at the time. Thankfully, no one sustained injuries. Passengers safely deplaned after airport authorities cleared the aircraft to taxi to the gate.
Des Moines International Airport spokesperson Sarah Hoodjer said staff promptly assisted the passengers.Air Canada arranged a replacement plane, which departed Des Moines at 11:50 p.m. and arrived in Toronto at 2:23 a.m. on April 17.

Air Canada has not disclosed the specific cause of the smell. The aircraft will undergo a detailed inspection before being cleared for future flights.
