The Burton Experience Returns to Toronto With Potion-Making and Live Theatre
The third edition turns Café Nicole into an Academy of Dark Arts for a month of guided potions, character encounters and late-night performances.

At 45 The Esplanade, a cocktail is not the only thing being mixed this October. The third edition of The Burton Experience is turning Café Nicole at Novotel Toronto Centre into the Academy of Dark Arts, a 90-minute Halloween production built around potion-making, character encounters and live performance.
Public ticketing is available on select dates from Oct 2 through Oct 31, 2026, with timed sessions within the organizer’s 5:30 p.m.-11 p.m. event window.
A Halloween pop-up built around participation
This edition shifts the format toward a fictional school of dark arts. Guests join a guided potion-making session, test their dark-fantasy and movie-lore knowledge, and move through theatrical scenes performed by Fabulist Theatre. The experience also includes themed food and drink options, staged sets and photo moments.
It is a different proposition from a walk-through haunt. The 90-minute format gives the actors time to involve the room in games and story beats, with the bar and dining room functioning as part of the set. Costumes are encouraged, according to the organizer.

A downtown alternative to large-scale haunts
Toronto’s Halloween calendar leans heavily on outdoor trails, haunted attractions and one-night parties. The Burton Experience occupies a smaller, indoor lane: a timed theatrical show with food, drinks and hands-on activities in the same room. Its Esplanade address also keeps the night close to Union Station and the St. Lawrence Market area.
For other options around the city, compare the dates in Over Here Toronto’s October 2026 events guide and its broader Toronto Halloween guide. Both are useful when planning a second stop or choosing between a performance, a party and a traditional scare attraction.
The practical takeaway is simple: book from the live calendar, note the 90-minute runtime and check what the selected ticket includes. Ticket inclusions may vary by performance, so the checkout page should be treated as the final word for the selected date.
