Frost Advisory in Effect: Ontario Gardeners Urged to Protect Plants from Overnight Chill
A frost advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for several parts of Ontario, warning residents to cover up their plants as temperatures are expected to fall dangerously close to freezing.

The advisory, issued Monday evening, affects regions across both southwestern and northern Ontario, including areas in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) such as Brantford, Caledon, Halton Hills–Milton, Newmarket, and Northern York Region.
What You Need to Know
Environment Canada says temperatures will likely dip near 0°C overnight into Tuesday morning, prompting the warning for those with sensitive gardens and crops. Clear skies and light winds make conditions ideal for frost formation, even in urban fringe areas.
“Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas,” the national weather agency stated.
These frost advisories are issued during the growing season when overnight lows are expected to hover around freezing — a condition that can lead to damage or even destruction of plants and crops.

- Newmarket and Northern York Region
- Uxbridge and northern Durham
- Peterborough and nearby rural zones
Even popular city-adjacent regions like Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Madoc are under alert.
Tuesday Weather Outlook
The overnight low in places like Milton is forecast at 2°C, with clear skies amplifying the frost risk. By Tuesday afternoon, however, temperatures are expected to rebound to a high of 17°C with a milder overnight low of 8°C heading into Wednesday — suggesting the advisory is limited to Monday night only.
