Lululemon Sues Costco for Selling Alleged Knockoffs of Popular Products
Lululemon sues Costco for allegedly selling knockoffs of its products, including Scuba hoodies, Define jackets, and ABC pants. The lawsuit claims that Costco has been selling these “dupes” under the Kirkland label, as well as through manufacturers such as Danskin, Jockey, and Spyder. Lululemon argues that these counterfeit products infringe on its intellectual property rights and mislead customers, many of whom believe they are purchasing authentic Lululemon items.
The Allegations
According to Lululemon’s court filing, some customers have been misled into believing that Costco’s products are authentic Lululemon items. The company claims that these “dupes” are so similar in appearance to their original products that they confuse consumers, with some purchasing them knowingly due to their resemblance to the high-end athletic wear. Lululemon argues that these actions violate its patents and take advantage of the brand’s reputation for quality.
Lululemon’s lawsuit, filed on June 27, 2025, demands that Costco cease manufacturing, marketing, and selling the alleged counterfeit products. The company is also requesting a jury trial and monetary compensation for the lost profits it attributes to the sale of these items.
The Response from Costco
At the time of writing, Costco has not responded to requests for comment or filed a response to the lawsuit.
A Growing Trend of “Dupes”
The lawsuit highlights a growing trend of consumers purchasing “dupes” or knockoff products as a way to save money, especially in light of inflation and rising product prices. Lululemon’s high price point has made its products a target for brands attempting to mimic the designs at lower prices.

While Lululemon has faced challenges with competition in the market, it has also recently made headlines with its attempt to manage new tariffs and price hikes on certain products.
This lawsuit is another example of the increasing scrutiny over the sale of counterfeit goods, a trend that has intensified in recent years, particularly in the online retail sector.
