New No Frills Store Opens in Downtown Toronto
A new No Frills store is opening on Thursday, March 20, 2025, in downtown Toronto, serving the Little Italy and Little Portugal neighborhoods. This location replaces a planned Pusateri’s, which announced its opening in February 2023 but did not move forward with the project.

What to Expect from the New No Frills Location
The store, owned by PJ Mazzonna, will bring affordable grocery options to the community. A company billboard promotes the new location with the message, “We help Little Italy and Little Portugal get the frill out of its bill.”
This new downtown No Frills joins a similar small-format location at King and Shaw Streets, which opened in May 2024. That store, at 15,000 square feet, is less than half the size of a typical No Frills but offers the same shopping experience.
Smaller Format, Same Low Prices
The No Frills small-format model allows for more flexible store locations in urban and rural areas. Melanie Singh, president of Hard Discount, Loblaw Companies, stated in a news release that the new format improves access to affordable food while maintaining the same low prices and promotions found in larger stores.
Customers at the College Street location can expect:
- Discounted grocery prices similar to other No Frills locations.
- Weekly flyer promotions offering additional savings.
- Locally sourced products to match community preferences.
- A shopping experience comparable to larger stores despite the smaller space.
The new No Frills store aims to provide accessible, affordable food options to residents of Little Italy and Little Portugal. As grocery prices continue to be a concern for many, this location helps bring more budget-friendly choices to downtown Toronto.
