Summer McIntosh Wins Second Gold at Swimming World Championships in Quest for Five
Canada’s Summer McIntosh has earned her second gold medal at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore, claiming victory in the women’s 200-metre individual medley. The 18-year-old from Toronto finished with a time of 2:06.69, falling short of her world-record time of 2:05.7, which she set just last month at the Canadian trials in Victoria, B.C.

McIntosh’s Strong Performance and Ambition for Five Golds
McIntosh wasn’t fully satisfied with her time but remains focused on her goal of winning five gold medals at the championships. “I’m not super happy with the time, but at a world championships, my goal is just to go as fast as I can, not focus too much on anything else,” she said after the race. She also expressed excitement for the upcoming events.
With this win, McIntosh set a new Canadian record for the most gold medals in long-course world championships. This victory marks her sixth gold and her 10th overall, surpassing Canadian swimming legends Kylie Masse and Penny Oleksiak for the most world championship medals by a Canadian.
Mary-Sophie Harvey Takes Bronze
In an exciting twist, McIntosh’s fellow Canadian, Mary-Sophie Harvey of Trois-Rivières, Que., earned the bronze in the 200m IM with a time of 2:09.15, just behind Alex Walsh of the U.S. (2:08.58). Harvey’s podium finish marked a historic moment for Canadian swimming, with both McIntosh and Harvey sharing the medals in this prestigious event.
McIntosh’s next challenge will be the 200m butterfly, with the semifinals scheduled for Wednesday and the final on Thursday. She will also compete in the 800m freestyle on Saturday and the 400m individual medley on Sunday.

Looking Ahead: The Road to Five Gold Medals
McIntosh has already earned a gold medal in the 400m freestyle, where she defeated American rival Katie Ledecky to claim her first world title in the event. As McIntosh prepares for her upcoming races, she remains focused on her long-term goal: to be the second swimmer in history after Michael Phelps to win five individual gold medals at a world championships.
