Wawa’s Famous Goose Monument Gets a Giant Keychain Makeover
In Wawa, Ontario, one of the country’s best-known goose landmarks is turned into a giant keychain as part of a new campaign focused on family caregivers.
The oversized makeover comes from Petro-Canada, which is launching the second annual Give A Honk campaign in support of the Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation.
While the giant keychain may catch attention, the message puts the focus on people who often work quietly in the background.

Wawa’s Famous Goose Joins the Campaign
The Goose Monument in Wawa has long been an iconic stop in Northern Ontario. Now, the landmark has a playful new purpose as a giant keychain to mark the start of this year’s Give A Honk campaign.
The transformation connects the familiar Canadian symbol with the idea of looking out for others. Canada geese are known for staying close to their flock and protecting those around them, qualities that Petro-Canada says reflect the role of family caregivers.
The campaign also aims to encourage more Canadians to notice and recognize the work caregivers do every day.
“Give A Honk” is not only about the eye-catching installation. It aims to spark a wider conversation about the millions of people who care for family members and loved ones.
How Canadians Can Take Part
The campaign will run throughout September, offering Canadians a way to support the cause while picking up a small version of the giant goose keychain.
- Campaign: Give A Honk
- When: Throughout September
- Keychain Cost: $1 (plus applicable taxes)
- Purchase Requirement: A 25-litre fuel purchase at Petro-Canada
- Petro-Canada Donation: $3 to the CareMakers Foundation with each qualifying keychain purchase
- Beneficiaries: Family caregivers across Canada
- Use of Funds: Grants for organizations that support family caregivers
The $1 keychain serves as a physical reminder of the campaign, while the larger contribution from Petro-Canada supports programs beyond the purchase itself.
Supporting Caregivers Across Canada
Family caregiving can happen without much public attention. People may spend their time helping relatives and loved ones while their efforts remain unseen by much of the wider community.
The Petro-Canada CareMakers Foundation supports more than eight million family caregivers across Canada, with funds raised through the campaign helping provide grants to organizations that serve these caregivers.
The Canada goose’s reputation for fierce loyalty and protectiveness gives the campaign a simple image for something that can be harder to see: the everyday commitment involved in caring for another person.
