McDonald’s Launches New “Dirty Soda” Lineup Across 500 U.S. Restaurants
McDonald’s is introducing a new range of “dirty sodas” this Fall, tapping into a popular trend to excite Gen-Z customers. The fast-food giant is launching a collection of cold brews, fruity refreshers, and craft sodas as part of its efforts to refresh its beverage offerings. These drinks are inspired by the CosMc’s brand, a concept McDonald’s has now embraced after shutting down its standalone CosMc’s locations.

The New Drink Lineup
Starting September 2, more than 500 McDonald’s restaurants across Wisconsin, Colorado, and surrounding areas will roll out five unique beverages. These drinks are designed to cater to a variety of tastes and occasions—from morning energy boosters to afternoon refreshments. The new offerings include:
- Toasted Vanilla Frappé: A rich and creamy drink perfect for those who enjoy a smooth, sweet treat.
- Strawberry Watermelon Refresher: A fruity, refreshing option that blends two favorite summer flavors.
- Sprite Lunar Splash: A vibrant twist on a classic soda with a tangy citrus kick.
- Popping Tropic Refresher: A tropical-inspired drink with added fizz.
- Creamy Vanilla Cold Brew: A chilled coffee option with a velvety vanilla flavor.
These drinks are part of McDonald’s broader strategy to meet the evolving tastes of its younger customers, especially Gen Z, who are increasingly turning to flavored, non-alcoholic beverages.
The Dirty Soda Trend
A “dirty soda” is made by mixing a soda base, like Coca-Cola or Sprite, with flavored syrups or creamers. This trend, originally popular in Utah and boosted by celebrity endorsements like Olivia Rodrigo, has grown in popularity, especially among those seeking fun, non-alcoholic drinks. McDonald’s is tapping into this trend by offering a range of options that feature bold flavors and caffeine-free choices.
Expanding Beverage Offerings
McDonald’s has noticed a surge in the popularity of its cold drinks and is seizing the opportunity to expand its menu. Alyssa Buetikofer, McDonald’s USA’s Chief Customer Experience and Marketing Officer, explained that this move caters to customer preferences. It also allows the brand to stay relevant during key moments of the day, like snack breaks or mid-afternoon cravings.

Why This Matters
The introduction of these drinks follows a broader industry trend, with major beverage brands like Coke and Pepsi planning to release their own new soda innovations. With competition in the soda space heating up, McDonald’s is eager to test these drinks and gauge customer reception before expanding the lineup further.
