Bell Outage Leaves Over 130,000 Users Without Internet in Ontario and Quebec
A major Bell outage has left thousands of Canadians without internet access, disrupting landline and mobile services across Ontario and Quebec. As of 9:30 a.m. ET on May 21, 2025, more than 130,000 users had reported issues on DownDetector, citing everything from dropped connections to full service blackouts. The incident has triggered widespread frustration, especially as many rely on Bell for remote work, business operations, and essential services.

Bell has confirmed the issue and says it is working to restore service “as quickly as possible,” but no cause or estimated resolution time has been announced.
What Happened?
According to DownDetector, 61% of reported issues were with landline internet, while 11% involved mobile connections. Another 28% of users described a total blackout. The impact wasn’t limited to just Ontario and Quebec — reports also surfaced from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland and Labrador, with some scattered across other provinces.
Bell acknowledged the issue in a statement on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter):
“Some customers in Ontario and Quebec may be experiencing an Internet service interruption. We are working to restore service as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

As of publication, Bell’s support website was also down, displaying a “service unavailable” message.
Still No Cause or Restoration Timeline
CBC News, Global News, and other outlets have reached out to Bell Canada for more information, but no official cause or estimated fix time has been confirmed. Customers have taken to social media to share their frustrations, with many noting the difficulty of working from home, attending virtual meetings, or even accessing emergency services.
Why This Matters
With so many Canadians relying on Bell internet services for work, school, and communication, even a short-term outage can have far-reaching effects. Businesses and public services in affected regions are likely to experience delays or disruptions as they wait for systems to come back online.
This outage also comes at a time when Bell is promoting its new Workplace from Bell and Zoom platform, a move that emphasizes AI-powered business communication tools. The timing is awkward, to say the least, as customers now question the reliability of Bell’s network.
