Armed Carjacking Leads to Overnight Pursuit

The chaos began around 11 p.m. Monday night, when Toronto police were tracking suspects linked to an armed carjacking near the Shops at Don Mills. Officers eventually located two vehicles tied to the incident—a BMW M5 and a Rolls-Royce—heading southbound on the Don Valley Parkway (DVP).

When police attempted to intercept the suspects near the eastbound Gardiner Expressway at Jarvis Street, the situation escalated. One suspect exited the BMW and jumped off the elevated expressway, landing on Lake Shore Boulevard near Parliament Street. Emergency crews transported him to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

While police were able to recover the BMW, the remaining suspects fled in the Rolls-Royce, prompting an ongoing manhunt. No officers were injured during the encounter, although several police vehicles sustained damage.

As a result of the incident, eastbound lanes of the Gardiner remain closed at Jarvis Street, while southbound DVP lanes have since reopened at Richmond Street, allowing limited access to Lake Shore Boulevard and westbound Gardiner traffic.

Meanwhile, westbound Lake Shore Boulevard is closed at Parliament Street, further adding to downtown traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour.

SIU Launches Investigation

Due to the injuries sustained during the police interaction, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has taken over the case. The SIU investigates situations involving police interactions resulting in serious injuries, death, sexual assault allegations, or firearm discharges.

Toronto police say they will not comment further while the SIU investigation is underway. There is no update yet on when the remaining highway lanes will reopen.
