According to Hamilton police, two vehicles exchanged gunfire during a violent altercation, and the crossfire struck Randhawa, an innocent bystander.

What Happened

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. on April 17, near Upper James Street and South Bend Road. Police say Randhawa was standing at a bus stop on her way to work when gunfire broke out between a black Mercedes SUV and a white sedan.

A bullet struck her in the chest. Emergency crews rushed her to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead.

Caught in the Crossfire

Investigators believe a passenger in the black Mercedes SUV opened fire on the white sedan. The Mercedes fled westbound on South Bend Road, while the sedan headed north on Upper James.

The violence didn’t stop there. Gunfire also shattered the rear window of a nearby home on Allenby Avenue, where residents were watching TV. Thankfully, no one inside was hurt.

Police Ask for Help

Police are continuing their investigation and are reviewing video footage. They’re urging anyone with dashcam or security footage from 7:15 to 7:45 p.m. in the area to come forward.

“This is unacceptable,” said Staff Sgt. Brendan Dolan, calling the behavior reckless and tragic.

The school is offering support services to students and faculty affected by the tragedy.

A Life Cut Short

Police continue to search for those responsible and are asking the public for any information that might help the investigation.
