Extent of the Damage

Toronto Fire Services reported that six buildings were completely destroyed and several others sustained damage. Acting Deputy Chief Steve Darling confirmed that two to three additional buildings may require full renovations due to fire exposure. Buildings across the street experienced damage to facades, windows, and siding, but remain structurally sound.

The affected structures include century homes converted into businesses, increasing the financial impact of the fire. Officials anticipate a significant property loss due to the extensive damage. Firefighters remain on-site, monitoring for hot spots and ensuring the fire does not reignite.

Evacuations and Road Closures

Emergency responders evacuated parts of the area due to downed hydro wires. Toronto Fire Services confirmed that two people were removed from a nearby property but were not injured. Bay Street remains closed between Yorkville Avenue and Davenport Road, leading to traffic disruptions in the area.

Cause of the Fire Under Investigation

The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called to investigate the cause of the fire. As of now, officials have not determined what started the blaze.
