Mountain Equipment Company Recalls Children’s Snowsuits in Canada Due to Mould Concerns
Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) has recalled two types of children’s snowsuits due to possible mould contamination. The recall affects the MEC Toaster and Toaster Bunting suits sold in Canada between August and December 2024.
Health Canada issued a recall notice on February 17, 2025, advising customers to check their snowsuits for specific item and purchase order (PO) numbers. The affected item numbers are 5037-265 and 5047-839, with PO numbers 666483 and 666503. Only suits with these numbers are part of the recall.
Details of the Recalled Snowsuits
The recalled suits are insulated, waterproof, and feature dual front zippers. They come in various sizes and colors:
- MEC Toaster Bunting Suits (for infants aged 6, 12, 18, and 24 months):
- Colors: Summit Winter Critters, Salmonberry, Wild Berry, and Earthen Gold.
- MEC Toaster Suits (for children aged 3 to 7 years):
- Colors: Salmonberry, Purple Orchid, Summit, Black POW, and Dark Forest Mountain Snow.
The product tag on the Toaster Bunting suit is located on the inside left hip, while the Toaster suit tag is on the central back inside seam.

Health Risks of Mould Exposure
Mould exposure can lead to health concerns, particularly for individuals with compromised immune systems, lung conditions, or mould allergies. As of February 11, 2025, MEC has received two reports of potential health-related issues linked to the recalled suits. However, the company has not confirmed if these cases resulted directly from mould contamination.
What Customers Should Do
MEC urges customers to stop using the recalled snowsuits immediately. Customers can return affected suits to any MEC retail store for a full refund or exchange.
