School and Bus Cancellations Across Central Ontario Due to Ice Storm – April 3, 2025

A late-season ice storm has disrupted school transportation across parts of central Ontario, leading to widespread bus cancellations and school closures on Thursday, April 3.

School boards and transportation services in Simcoe County, Muskoka, and Trillium Lakelands have issued detailed updates, with decisions based on road conditions, freezing rain impacts, and local weather zones.

Simcoe County: Select Schools Closed, Buses Cancelled in North and Central Zones

The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium has confirmed school bus cancellations for several schools in both the North and Central weather zones. Some schools are fully closed due to unsafe travel conditions.

North Zone Closures:

Both the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) and the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) have closed the following schools. All buses to these schools are also cancelled:

  • Marchmont PS
  • Rama Central PS
  • Severn Shores PS
  • Uptergrove PS
  • Couchiching Heights PS
  • Harriett Todd PS
  • Lions Oval PS
  • Orchard Park PS

  • Regent Park PS
  • Simcoe Shores (Orillia campus)
  • Twin Lakes SS
  • Foley Catholic School
  • St. Bernards Catholic School
  • Monsignor Lee Catholic School
  • Notre Dame Catholic School
  • Patrick Fogarty Catholic High School

Other transportation in the North zone remains operational.

Central Zone Closures:

SCDSB has also closed the following schools in the Central zone:

  • Forest Hill PS
  • Goodfellow PS
  • Guthrie PS
  • Holly Meadows ES
  • Shanty Bay PS
  • WR Best Memorial PS

All transportation to these schools has been cancelled. Other bus routes in the Central zone are still running.

Muskoka: All School Buses Cancelled

All school transportation services are cancelled across the Muskoka region for Thursday. This includes both public and Catholic boards.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board: Zone 4 and 5 Buses Cancelled

The Trillium Lakelands DSB has cancelled all school buses in Zone 4 and Zone 5, affecting multiple schools across the region.

Georgian College: Orillia and Muskoka Campuses Reopen

Georgian College has announced the reopening of its Orillia and Muskoka campuses on Thursday.
Classes and services will resume where possible, and students are advised to check Blackboard for updates.

Students who feel travel is unsafe should use discretion and contact instructors directly.

Lakehead University: Orillia Campus In-Person Classes Cancelled

Lakehead University’s Orillia campus has cancelled all in-person classes for both Thursday and Friday.

  • Online classes will proceed unless stated otherwise.
  • The campus remains open.
  • Students facing power or internet issues are encouraged to communicate with faculty when possible.
