Giuffre died by suicide on Friday at her farm in Western Australia, her publicist confirmed.

A Beacon for Survivors
Giuffre became a prominent advocate for sex trafficking survivors after bravely coming forward as a key figure in Epstein’s downfall. She was deeply loved by those close to her, with her publicist describing her as “wise, loving, and funny,” noting how she was always more concerned about others than herself.
Her advocacy shed light on the horrors of sex trafficking, and she became a beacon of hope for other survivors. “She adored her children and many animals,” her publicist, Dini von Mueffling, said in a statement. “It was the privilege of a lifetime to represent her.”
Giuffre’s Story
Born Virginia Roberts, Giuffre was a teenager when she was trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein and forced into sex with some of his powerful associates. Giuffre said she was coerced into sexual acts with men, including Prince Andrew, when she was just 17 and 18.
She publicly accused Prince Andrew in 2015, claiming that Epstein’s associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, trafficked her for sexual encounters with powerful men, including the prince. Despite denials from those accused, including Prince Andrew, parts of Giuffre’s account were supported by witness testimony, documents, and photographs.
Giuffre also filed lawsuits against Epstein and others connected to him. After Epstein’s death in 2019, which ended any hopes of criminal accountability, she pursued legal action against his accomplices, including Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was convicted of sex trafficking and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2021.
The Settlement with Prince Andrew
In 2022, Prince Andrew settled Giuffre’s lawsuit for an undisclosed amount. He also agreed to make a “substantial donation” to her survivor’s charity. This settlement followed a BBC interview in which Andrew’s denials and lack of empathy sparked public outcry.

Giuffre’s Legacy
Giuffre’s fight for justice didn’t stop with her legal battles. She founded SOAR, a charity dedicated to helping survivors of sexual trafficking, and continued to raise awareness about the issue.
Giuffre’s passing marks the loss of a significant figure in the fight for justice, and her legacy as a voice for survivors will continue to inspire others.
Final Days and Legacy
Before her death, Giuffre had faced health challenges, including a serious accident, for which her prognosis was described as dire. She was hospitalized recently, but details surrounding the incident were kept private.
As the world remembers Virginia Giuffre, her advocacy for survivors of sexual violence and her courage in confronting those who wronged her remain central to her enduring legacy.
