  • Temporary Lane Closures: Crews will remove medians and relocate stormwater pipes, causing lane reductions.
  • Pedestrian Detours and Bus Stop Relocations: Signage will guide pedestrians and transit users safely through work zones.
  • Noise and Vibration: Properties near the site may hear noise from trucks, excavators, and other heavy equipment.
  • Tree Removals: Some trees along Don Mills will be removed before the bird nesting period (March to August), with minimal work extending into this window.

Purpose of the Construction

This project supports the Ontario Line, a 15.6-kilometre subway line with 15 stops and over 40 transit connections. Utility relocation and road widening will prepare the area for a pier in the center median. This pier will support the elevated guideway for Ontario Line trains traveling to and from the northeastern terminal station at Don Mills and Eglinton.

Long-Term Benefits

When completed in 2031, the Ontario Line will:

  • Connect Exhibition Place to Don Mills and Eglinton in under 30 minutes.
  • Reduce traffic congestion with 28,000 fewer car trips daily.
  • Provide over 40 transit connections, including GO trains, LRTs, streetcars, and buses.

Minimized Disruptions

Metrolinx has taken steps to reduce impacts:

  • Electronic Signage: Provides advance notice of traffic restrictions.
  • Safe Zones: Fenced-in areas secure construction materials and equipment.
  • Coordinated Relocations: Temporary bus stop changes ensure safety for transit riders.

The Ontario Line project will ease congestion and improve connectivity across Toronto. While the construction period presents challenges, it promises long-term benefits for the city’s transit system and commuters.

Plan Ahead: Stay informed about updates through Metrolinx’s website and local signage. Allow extra travel time when navigating this area.
