Things To Do At Night In Toronto

· · ·

So you’re wondering what to do during a night in Toronto? Trust me, this city comes alive after sunset in ways that’ll surprise you. I’ve spent countless evenings exploring everything from rooftop bars to underground music venues, and honestly, Toronto’s nighttime scene has something for literally everyone. Whether you’re into adrenaline-pumping adventures or just want to chill with some good food and drinks, here’s what actually works when the sun goes down.

CN Tower EdgeWalk and Observation Decks

Okay, this one’s absolutely wild. The EdgeWalk is basically you walking around the outside of the CN Tower 116 stories up, and yes, they do evening sessions during summer months. It’s terrifying and amazing at the same time. Even if you’re not brave enough for that, the observation decks at night are incredible – the whole city spread out below you with all the lights twinkling. Fair warning though, it gets busy so book ahead.

Ripley’s Aquarium After Hours

This place hits different at night. The lighting gets dimmed and it feels like you’re in some underwater dream world. They sometimes do special evening events with drinks, which is pretty cool if you ask me. Walking through those tunnels with sharks swimming overhead while the place is less crowded? Way better than the daytime crowds.

King Street West Nightclub Scene

This strip is where Toronto’s nightlife really happens. You’ve got everything from intimate cocktail spots to massive dance clubs all within walking distance. The crowd’s pretty diverse – young professionals, tourists, locals – and the vibe changes depending on which place you hit. Most places have DJs on weekends and the party usually goes until last call.

Scotiabank Arena Events

Catching a Raptors or Leafs game at night is electric, especially during playoffs. Even if you’re not into sports, the energy around the arena before and after games is infectious. Tons of sports bars and restaurants in the area capitalize on the game day crowd, so it’s a whole scene.

Queen Street West Music Venues

This is where you’ll find the more alternative side of Toronto’s night in Toronto scene. Lots of indie venues hosting live bands, plus some really unique bars and late-night food spots. The Phoenix Concert Theatre and Danforth Music Hall are standouts if you’re looking for live music that goes past midnight.

The Distillery District Evening Walks

Honestly, this place is magical at night. The cobblestone streets and old brick buildings look incredible lit up, and it’s way less touristy after dark. Perfect for a romantic walk or just wandering around taking photos. Some of the restaurants and bars stay open late too, so you can make a whole evening of it.

Toronto Islands Night Ferry

Taking the ferry over to Centre Island in the evening gives you some of the best views of Toronto’s skyline, especially during sunset. The return trip is where you really see the city lit up from the water. It’s peaceful compared to downtown and feels like a mini escape without actually leaving the city.

Location: Ferry terminal at 9 Queens Quay W | Ferry schedule varies by season | Around $8 return

Casa Loma After Dark

They do special evening events and tours here that show off the castle’s spookier side. The gardens have great city views too, especially when everything’s lit up. Not always open for evening events, so you’ll want to check their calendar, but when they do themed nights it’s pretty cool.

St. Lawrence Market Area Night Scene

While the main market closes early, the surrounding streets come alive with pubs and restaurants that cater to the after-work crowd. It’s a bit more local and less touristy than other areas, which I actually prefer sometimes. Good mix of traditional pubs and newer spots.

Location: Around 93 Front St E

Kensington Market After Dark

This neighborhood keeps its quirky personality well into the night. Dive bars, ethnic restaurants, and vintage shops that stay open late create this really authentic Toronto vibe. It attracts a cool crowd of students, artists, and locals who aren’t into the mainstream club scene. Great for bar hopping on a smaller scale.

Financial District Rooftop Bars

These high-rise spots offer some seriously impressive views of the city lights along with craft cocktails that’ll cost you, but the atmosphere’s worth it. Places like Canoe and other rooftop lounges cater to the business crowd and people celebrating special occasions. Dress code tends to be a bit more upscale.

Second City Toronto

This comedy club is legendary – so many famous comedians got their start here. Shows usually run late and the intimate setting means you might get picked on (in a good way). Multiple shows per night usually, and sometimes they do late-night improv sessions that are hilarious.

Details: 51 Mercer St | Website: secondcity.com | Shows vary, usually under $30

Phoenix Concert Theatre

This place has been around forever and books some really good acts across all genres. The sound system’s great and it’s not too big, so you get a pretty intimate concert experience. Shows often go late and they sometimes have after-parties, especially on weekends.

Nathan Phillips Square Winter Skating

During winter months, the ice rink here stays open late with beautiful lighting around City Hall. It’s free to skate (you can rent skates there) and there’s usually a good mix of locals and tourists. The whole square looks pretty magical lit up at night, especially during the holidays.

Location: 100 Queen St W | Free skating, skate rentals available | Seasonal hours

Harbourfront Summer Events

In warmer months, this area hosts tons of evening festivals, outdoor movies, and concerts. The waterfront setting with the city as a backdrop makes for pretty amazing night events. Food vendors, live music, and usually a good crowd that’s there to have a good time.

Details: 235 Queens Quay W | Event schedules vary | Many events free

A night in Toronto really shows you what this city’s all about. From heart-stopping adventures like EdgeWalk to chill evenings wandering through the Distillery District, there’s honestly no excuse to be bored after dark here. The best part? You can easily hop between completely different vibes in the same evening – start with dinner and city views, move to live music, then end up at a late-night food spot. That’s what makes Toronto’s nightlife special – it’s not just one thing, it’s whatever you want it to be.
